planet5D expands into exercise and background videos and we need your help!

Yes, we’ve decided to expand planet5D into a new market and we’re going to ask you for your help in this adventure. But before getting into the details, let’s cover some of the reasons why we believe this is a great opportunity for for you and planet5D.

Overview of the market:

There are millions of people around the world exercising in dull dingy basements or rooms with no view. Some watch TV to break up the boredom of exercise while others just listen to music. There’s an untapped market for videos of nature or parks etc where the viewer can relax or exercise while watching something other than some TV program. We expect that these viewers will want very high quality HD content (which can be provided by Canon EOS 5D Mark II video or other HD video cameras - we won’t limit ourselves to 5Ds but we will require full HD content).

There are tons of exercise DVDs that show people exercising in beautiful locations, but the market seems slim for videos that let the person imagine being in that location. Recently, a big Hollywood movie opened with the main actress exercising to a similar video.

The target audience also includes people just looking for long scenic clips that they can enjoy without exercising. Especially tourist areas that they may have visited or plan to visit.

The audio will be natural - we expect to have the audio recorded at the same time as the video. The viewer will then have the option to watch with or without sound. We don’t believe that recording music over the video is either practical or desirable-the customer will want to select their own music. There may however be cases where this is desirable and we’ll consider those when they arise.

The partnership between you and planet5D.

Our plan is to expand into this untapped market and we need some help from you. The following is an outline of our plan. Of course, we’re open to creative input from you.

planet5D will provide is readership, marketing and top Google placement.

• We get over 1500 unique visitors a day and over 1400 people subscribe to our RSS feed. While this isn’t specific to exercise videos, we can leverage our top placement to get break into this market and gain a strangle hold on it.
• We anticipate creating a new segment of planet5D to go after this market and we’ll be creating a page to collect email addresses for those who might be interested. We’ll periodically be sending emails out to announce new videos or to solicit sales.
• We’ve got the attention of Google! Just look at just about any search for “5d xxxx” fill in your keywords) and you’ll find planet5D near the top of the page - often in the top 5. We can take advantage of these rankings to get word out on these videos.

For your part, we would like you to provide the raw video themselves. planet5D staff will take those videos and put them into consistent menus and packaging with our planet5D logos etc. This way we can build customer loyalty and trust.

We’re targeting you because of your past experience in your field and your talent and creativity. We know you’ll get excited about the possibility to show off your talents.

So you provide the raw video clips and we’ll do all the rest!

What we’re looking for is to get high quality videos of nature/walks/aquariums/beaches that we can package

We think there are needs for all of these:

• Walking/riding thru parks
• Beaches
• Unique city streets or tourist attractions
• World wide locations
  
• Mountain biking paths
• Scenic roads for cyclers
• Static scenes like at large public aquariums (sample) tho it would be fantastic if there weren’t people in the view.

We will only be accepting the highest quality video so please plan accordingly!

Our expectations are for long continuous video clips. If you’re using the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, obviously the clips can only be about 12 minutes, but you can plan a long walk with just stopping after 12 minutes and instantly restarting the video. The customers will hardly notice.

For videos that are moving (walking or cycling for example), we will only accept steady video. A steadycam isn’t required, but customers won’t accept jerky video nor will we.

Audio must be recorded externally and you must use wind protection of some kind. Audio with lots of wind noise are not acceptable.

We also expect you to use high quality lenses and the shutter must be clean - please make sure there aren’t any annoying sensor dust spots.

Pricing

We intend to initially market these online at $15-20 per DVD with slightly higher prices for blueray. Right now, there isn’t a site we’re aware of that will host large download files so we’re stuck with physical DVDs.

Google checkout will be used to process the orders and the fees are planet5D’s responsibility.

Offering low prices will induce more sales (ie. the new iPhone application market pricing - people pricing their apps at $0.99 or $1.99 are finding lots of impulse buyers and are making more profit than those offering similar apps for $5 or more). If we produce really high quality training that people enjoy, they’ll tell their friends and they’ll also be interesting in buying additional titles. We’re not out to be cheap with low quality - we want to provide superior quality at low prices to induce volume sales.

Something that is maybe only 5-10 minutes long for example, we would probably price at $9.99 - with making the purchase a “no brainer” for the customer. Other subjects that are covered in more detail or are longer might be priced higher.

Once we have good inventory, we may also offer bundles. Have you ever seen the MacHeist or MacUpdate software bundles? They package several items together and sell them at low prices for a limited time. This has proven to be a great marketing tool for them as they sell tens of thousands of bundles - earning money for them and their providers. But first, we need to start with a few titles.

Income distribution and responsibilities

Income will be split 60/40 between planet5D and you (planet5D has the majority of the fees and responsibility and is taking a slightly larger cut to cover those).

You will be responsible for planning and creating the training and providing the file(s) to planet5D. planet5D will use paypal to pay you monthly and will provide you regularly with information about each sale so you’re aware of how often your materials are being ordered.

planet5D would be responsible for managing all of the other activities. We’ll maintain the sites, create the marketing pages on planet5D, distribute the information to appropriate outlets, create the final DVD content and produce physical DVDs, process customer orders, ship to the customer, and deal with any customer issues.

Distribution of content

Once the customer order is processed, planet5D staff will package and ship the order.

Long term, we’d like to offer physical DVDs on Amazon.

Competition

Enchanting Burano has the top slot in google for ‘exercise dvd walking’ - but their website leaves the customer wanting more. Even the first page doesn’t have a “BUY” link… you have to search around to find the catalog.

ScenicTrex has 2 videos that they offer (and sell thru Amazon) for $15.99

Bottom line

This is a great idea and planet5D is in the enviable position of having lots of attention, readers, and excellent Google placement. What we need from you are the raw videos. You’ve got the skills that the market needs! Together we can capture an untapped market and grow our businesses together.
