DJI Blows Other Drones Out of the Sky with the Mavic Pro

Wow – I just watched the launch announcement and this looks even more amazing because it is so dang portable – DJI announced the DJI Mavic Pro portable drone that seems to have just about all the features of the DJI Phantom

I'll be updating this as I learn more so keep coming back!

Pre-order on the DJI Store (the store was crushed when I published this!)

  • Preorder today
  • October 15 shipping
  • November 2 in stores

Update to add this… if Casey doesn't convince you this is cool…

I've heard that the video isn't quite as good as Phantom 4 but who cares? This thing fits in your pocket!

  • Price: $999 – or $749 if you don't buy the controller
  • 27 minutes of flight time
  • 5 camera vision system
  • Redundant Sensors
  • 4k/12mp 3 axis gimbal camera (tho I don't think it is extractable like the new GoPro Karma)
  • Sports mode – 40mph (65km/h)
  • Tripod mode
  • The DJI Mavic Pro allows you to track, follow, parallel fly, orbit, spotlight on to your chosen subject
  • Terrain following – maintain constant height
  • Precision landing – 2x GPS, cameras and sonar sensors = precise hovering and landing
  • Gesture mode – make a gesture with your hands to activate selfie mode
  • OcuSync – new transmission system allows HD transmission up to 4.3 miles
  • Small controller or use smartphone controller

  1. Casey’s hands on comparison reveals the Mavic footage quality on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being best, gets a 2. The convenience of the size is completely overwhelmed by the low video quality. To call this camera footage “soft,” instead a blurry is an understatement. Color replication is not good, it’s bad. What a giant disappointment. They’re going to have to find a way to get a better camera on this thing and then I’d pay twice the price for the size. Right now, it’s not an option for me.

  2. Super late to the party but it turns out he forgot to focus the camera when flying. The images out of the drone are WAY sharper than he shows in the video.
