Vimeo’s “Top 25” made up of 24% Canon EOS 5D Mark II videos

by planetmitch1 Comment

Vimeo has published a “Top 25 of 2009” video list and I found it interesting that just a bit less than 1/4 (6 out of 25 or 24%) of them were shot on Canon EOS 5D Mark IIs (ok, I'm fudging the number just a bit because they included the Canon EOS-1D MKIV video “Nocturne” from Vincent Laforet but heck, it is a Canon hybrid after all). Interestingly, there weren't any Canon EOS 7D videos on their list. And, only 1 RED video (which I'm not really sure is RED either), and 4 are time-lapse (seems to be very popular as we've seen on planet5D).

From the Vimeo post, “2009 marked the most exciting year for Vimeo to date. Besides adding more than 1.5 million creators to our community, we saw thousands of the most creative videos in the world added to the site. It's been an amazing ride. Here are our favorite videos of the year in no particular order. And here's to another incredible year on Vimeo! Enjoy!”

Here are the Canon hybrid videos included in the list (in the order they posted them)

Nocturne (the only Canon EOS-1D MKIV video in the list – all the others are Canon EOS 5D Mark II)

Nocturne from Vincent Laforet on Vimeo.

Canon 1D MKIV – 1080p video shot at 6400 ASA (some scenes were shot at 3200 ASA) – with all available light. No outside light sources were used.

And one of my personal favorites from 2009 (well, there are so many to choose from) – and a favorite of yours based on the number of folks who watched this on planet5D – from Jon Rawlinson:

Kuroshio Sea – 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world – (song is Please don't go by Barcelona) from Jon Rawlinson on Vimeo.

(Give this some time to load before watching…otherwise you won't have smooth playback)

The main tank called the “Kuroshio Sea” holds 7,500-cubic meters (1,981,290 gallons) of water and features the world's second largest acrylic glass panel, measuring 8.2 meters by 22.5 meters with a thickness of 60 centimeters. Whale sharks and manta rays are kept amongst many other fish species in the main tank.

This was shot using a Canon 5DMKII with a 28-135mm lens.

This is another of my favorites – I downloaded the full size and watched it half a dozen times… a great little movie

By now, you're expecting me to really gush over every video on this list… well, I'm gonna shock you on this one… I didn't really like it the first time I saw it… and still don't – it wouldn't make my top 25 I'm afraid (but since I didn't make the list, and it is Canon EOS 5D Mark II, we've got to include it LOL).
