Stop. Don't pass up this story. I'm serious. If you do, you're missing out on one of the most remarkable and inspiring stories in filmmaking today from the “Remarkable Ones” series.
I'm very serious.
Now, this one is personal for me, very personal. One of the biggest blessings in my career with planet5D was to become good friends with Shane and Lydia Hurlbut.
Go watch the video (video below is just the trailer) and I'll wait for you here…
Now that you've seen how Lydia was the inspiration and driving force behind the ‘branding' of Shane, let me also tell you she's been a big influence in my life. If I lived in LA, I'd be begging to sit down with her once a month and the crazy thing is she'd do it. She's so giving of her time! There have been several times where I've been in LA and she's made time to have lunch or just spend time in the office with me and I'm so blessed to be able to count her as a friend.
I've met her father (he's mentioned several times in the video) and my stars what a remarkable family!
And of course, if you know anything about Shane or have ever seen him on stage during a presentation or thru any of the videos he's shared over the years, you KNOW of his passion!
I will never ever forget the very first time I met both of them – it was at the Collision Conference in LA back in 2009 (at least I think it was 2009) – and Shane was the keynote speaker. I had goosebumps watching him tell about the Canon EOS 5D Mark II – his speaking ability and the passion flowing out of him while he taught up on stage was remarkable. And there I was sitting next to Lydia. I don't remember how I came to sit next to her, but it changed my life.
I was a shy guy who was just dipping his toes into venturing outside of his comfort zone. I started planet5D on a tiny hope of turning it into something and I had a full-time day job with Boeing at the time. I live in the mid-west of the USA and I took a gamble to go out to the collision conference – way way outside of my comfort zone of sitting behind a desk writing software!
And I met and interviewed Vincent Laforet who had started the DSLR Video revolution! And then I met Shane and Lydia! Imagine where my brain was going and how amazing life is when you step out of your comfort zone! Since then, I've been blessed to work with so many great people like Patrick Moreau who shot this feature! And it just goes on from here.
