The Canon 5D Mark IV to Use 30MP– Plausible Or Not?

by Bret Hoy2 Comments

Clearly, we still have a few weeks left to speculate over what we’re going to get in the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV.

Well, this week, Canon Rumors is reporting that the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will have a 30MP sensor. Now that would be very interesting wouldn’t it?

If this is to be believed, it actually reveals a lot of information about what Canon might be doing with the rest of their line—specifically, the 6D Mark II. While we’re not expecting that body from Canon for a while, that could mean it would fall around 24MP.

Canon Rumors says to take this one with a heavy pinch of salt, but I think that if Canon wants to really compete, they’re going to need to offer some upgrades in the resolution department outside of just video.

Nowadays, Nikon and Sony are dealing +30mp bodies. Canon has a lot to do to up the ante. Is 30mp really that far out of the picture?

Via Canon Rumors:

We’re told that the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will come out with a 30mp sensor. This is the first time we’ve heard of such a resolution, but it does come from a “retail source”.

We’re cautious that it could be a number that was rounded up or rounded down, because the most popular megapixel counts have been 24 and 28.

  1. The feature I most want in any camera is low noise at high ISOs. Unless 30Mp comes with reduced noise, what’s the point?

By the way, “30mp” is 30 millipixels. How do you get a fractional pixel?
