The Sony a99 has been somewhat left by the wayside since the advent of Sony’s immensely powerful mirrorless system. That’s not all too surprising considering how it’s specs matched up with their rivals in the DSLR world.
Even though it (surprisingly) had 1080 video at 60 frames a second, it was brought back to earth by the fairly average megapixel count and definitely hurt by the limited Sony Alpha lens library. Now that it’s 2016, it feels outdated.
Well, not for long.
According to Sony Alpha Rumors, we could be seeing a new Sony a99 announced before too long. And the specs that they’re reporting it might have are incredibly impressive. Namely, the 42 megapixel sensor and 4k video recording capabilities.
No one is expecting the Sony DSLR line to take the world by storm, but they already have their diehard shooters. Could this be their way to break in? Even if that doesn’t happen, if the specs are anywhere close to this, the Sony a99 could be a quiet powerhouse for those willing to make the switch.
