Simple is good. And in spite of its unfortunate name, the Cineasy Touch is a simple solution to that confounded record button.
I love the Sony a6000 [B&H | Amazon] – it’s the camera that convinced me to switch from decades of Canon body upgrades and L-glass up the whazoo to mirrorless – but the record button is a pain in the butt.
Right: in the overall scheme of human experience, this is not exactly a big deal.
Still, it IS annoying on a shoot.
planet5D reader Tom Altman’s Cineasy Touch is this generation’s equivalent of the soft touch release button designed specifically to redress the Sony record button.
I don’t know what the Cineasy Touch is made of, but if you think about a foam mic wind screen which has been compressed and hardened to a very specific, camera-hugging shape, that’s a pretty reasonable description.
In order to attach the Cineasy Touch:
1. take off the strap ring nearest the release (not an issue for me since I never use it with a strap, but this may be an issue for you);
2. line up the Cineasy touch against the camera body; and
3. use a jeweler’s Philips head screwdriver with the supplied screw and adjust the alignment before final tightening (make sure the small protrusion on the Cineasy Touch snuggles into the record button dimple — dead easy) .
It takes less than a minute.
Voilá: it fits well, it sits well, it falls comfortably to the thumb — it just plain works.
I’ve only just installed it so I can’t tell you how it will wear, but for now I’m leaving it on as a permanent fixture. If it stands up to use, then at $14.95 for the a6000 version and $19.95 for the a7/a7s/a7R version (a7 II and a7R II versions are in the works), the Cineasy Touch is a no-brainer .

Cineasy Touch Button Enhancement
Via Cineasy Touch:
The Sony A7S is one of the best video cameras in the market. The Sony A6000 is one of the best selling cameras in the market. But both cameras have one major challenge when using the video feature. The video record button is too small, awkwardly placed and slightly recessed. This makes it very difficult to activate without much fumbling around. You usually have to remove your eyes from the viewfinder to even locate the button. All this searching and fumbling around can cause shaky footage or missing the action all together. This is why we created the Cineasy Touch Button Enhancement. This Patent Pending device, for the Sony Alpha line of mirrorless cameras will help your camera to capture pristine video just as easily as it does still images.
The Cineasy Touch installs in just minutes and is super intuitive and very responsive. The Cineasy Touch provides a larger point of contact that can easily be found without taking your eye off the action. Simply press the Cineasy Touch and record video intuitively and effortlessly. You will love it so much you will never remove it from your camera. It simply attaches to the neck strap eyelet nearest the video button with the included screw. Its that simple to make your camera capture video like a professional. You will not be able to attach a neck strap while the Cineasy is attached.
