Kickstarter Animal Rhino at It Again with Rhino Slider EVO + Rhino Motion

What are 600%; 234%; 1,309%; and 1,592%? They’re the funding percentages of Rhino Camera Gear’s OTHER successful Kickstarter campaigns. Up next? The Rhino Slider EVO + Rhino Motion controller.

They make good products (NB: we’ve not seen any in the metal or carbon fiber), but there’s no denying that Rhino Camera Gear makes great Kickstarter campaigns. The latest one is so good we really do want to check it out once they start shipping later this summer.

The perfect slider is one of the holy grails in DSLR filmmaking. There are plenty of them already out there, and it always comes down to four things:

· smoothness;
· rigidity;
· weight; and
· cost

You can usually demand any three of the four.

The holy grail, of course, is getting all four as you want them.

The Rhino Slider EVO seems a mashup of much of the best out there, including flywheel, very low profile, light weight, precision movement, brake, optional parallax correction, and optional motion control.

The Rhino Motion looks like a very straightforward controller (yay!), easy to read under varying light conditions. But it also is supposed to be exceptionally quiet; have an auto limit sensor so that it doesn’t mindlessly bang against the endpiece; and comes with a built-in battery. It even looks like it’s capable of varying speed without changing gears (to be determined).

With rewards including a slider beginning at $399 for their core 24” (though NOT compatible with the flywheel, motion or parallax units) and running all the way up to $1,149 for the Slider EVO PRO 42” + Rhino Motion, pricing is aggressive.

We look forward to coming back to you when we know more. In the meantime, you can visit their Kickstarter page.

Rhino Slider EVO + Rhino Motion

Seattle, WA (April 7, 2015) – Rhino Slider EVO and Rhino Motion, powerful filmmaking tools for live motion shots and time-lapse, are the newest additions to Rhino’s growing camera gear lineup. Announced today, a week before NAB, Rhino Slider EVO & Rhino Motion will improve and help simplify the workflow for filmmakers and photographers shooting live motion and time-lapse.

Available now in 24 inch and 42 inch, Carbon Fiber and Stainless Steel versions, the new Rhino Slider EVO line improves on everything that was good about Rhino’s original sliders, which were designed to be the most modular and versatile tools in a filmmaker’s kit.

Rhino Motion unites new technology and durable hardware design in a way that makes it accessible to beginners and is a breath of fresh air to professionals. It integrates with the EVO slider line seamlessly.

“It’s essentially as simple as plug-and-play,” says Peter Davenport, Rhino’s electronics design engineer. “Just attach Rhino Motion to your EVO slider, then use our controller’s simple interface and within seconds you’re shooting a time-lapse.”

Using a powerful, ultra-precise (.7µ resolution) drive system and a built in hi-capacity battery, filming on multiple shoots is made possible without needing to swap motors or use external batteries.

“Rhino Slider EVO & Rhino Motion is the first motorized slider to do both live-action moves and time-lapse extremely well in a single, easy-to-use unit.” says Rhino CEO Kyle Hart. “We’re making camera movement simple.”

During NAB 2015, Rhino CEO will be meeting with filmmakers and interested press in hands-on demos of the new slider system and the motorized control integration.
