Zeiss Otus 85mm f1.4 Lens Test : This Week’s Rorshach Test

by Hugh BrownstoneLeave a Comment

Wide Open Camera tested the Zeiss Otus 85mm f1.4 lens using the Panasonic GH4 and Metabones Speed Booster, with lifeguard Stephanie Ertl as the subject.  Who are you, and what do you see — the optics, the girl or just plain red?

 I’m worried.

I watched this video and my overwhelming thought was: that is just razor sharp, fantastic glass.

Lifeguard Stephanie Ertl? Yeah, OK.

I must be getting really old.

And as the father of two daughters, I knew that what I really ought to be thinking – and I did have a flash of this a few minutes later – was “Gee, can’t we find a test a little less in-your-face-female-form-objectifying?”

I think if my daughters watched this video, they'd just see red.

But man, oh MAN is that glass sharp.

Gives me goosebumps.

What do YOU see?

Here is a quick test of the killer new Zeiss Otus lenses. We used both the 55mm f1.4 and the brand new 85mm f1.4. Both lenses are tack sharp with a nice creamy bokeh. A huge THANKS to Stephanie Ertl and Lan Bui for helping out with the shoot.
