Blackmagic Ups The Ante and Adds Crucial Features with Blackmagic Firmware Update 1.9.3

by Karin Gottschalk1 Comment

Blackmagic Design has upped the ante once again with the latest version of its Blackmagic firmware, this time for the Blackmagic Pocket Camera (BMPC) and Blackmagic Cinema Camera (BMCC).

We now have three of the most asked-for features in both cameras – audio meters, histogram and time remaining – none of which I for one can do easily without in a video camera. And the list of other improvements is impressive too, especially the increase in shutter angle and white balance options in both.

The Blackmagic Firmware update sees these two dearly loved cameras gain features other vendors have been adding to their own efforts over the last couple of years and it is great to see the Melbourne-based company breaking out in front of the pack yet again. What next for these very effectively priced, now very usable, cinema-class cameras?

Rather than rattling on further, let’s jump to the Pro Video Coalition’s own, more detailed article about the Blackmagic Firmware Update.

I am impressed by the innovativeness of engineers from Black Magic and admire courage to adopt a product line that democratizes access of less affluent users to produce high-quality video.
