From our friends at Switronix, we get an intriguing video shot by the time-lapse group on New Year's Eve in some unusual place called “Times Square” – why would that be interesting at all for New Year's? HA!
Switronix Introduces The Timelapse Group
They're a group of guys who are passionate about videography and timelapse. They describe themselves as a “Timelapse digital production and brand film agency telling great stories through video and socially integrated platforms.”
The Timelapse group did something millions of people wish they could do at least once in their lives; they spent New Year's Eve in Times Square. Not only did they spend it in Times Square, but they also spent it on the roof top of three separate hotels!
The Shooting Experience
They were equipped with at least 4 cameras on each rooftop; a RED EPIC, Canon 5D, 7D, 60D and more. Switronix provided The Timelapse Group with enough batteries to last them throughout the night. The PowerBase70s, and XP-L95REDs provided their cameras non-stop power.
The temperature in NYC on the ground was right above freezing at about 34 degrees, but with wind chills the temperature felt like it was in the mid-20s. These brave souls of the Timelapse Group spent it close to 40 stories high up on the rooftops of The Manhattan- Times Square, DoubleTree Suites by Hilton- Times Square and the Crowne Plaza- Times Square. They were filming from 12:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
The tricky thing about lithium-ion batteries is how they react to cold weather. Most things do not react to cold weather well, myself included but that's another story. Cold temperature increases the internal resistance and diminishes the charge capacity of lithium-ion batteries. The batteries have to work harder in cold weather. Noel Cordero of The Timelapse Group said, “At 10:45, we had been shooting for almost 12 hours and the PB70s have lasted us all day. We didn't have to change them out. We only changed the XP-L95REDs…because of the [cold] weather.”
The Timelapse Group shows you a very special side of the city on this magical night.
