Schiller's camera (schillers.com) called and asked if I wanted to try the new Canon EOS 70D – of course I do! Here's our first look at the new Canon EOS 70D. It is a 20.2MP APS-C HDSLR with the new ‘Dual Pixel CMOS AF' sensor.
My goal was to do two things, first, I wanted to see what the moire was like compared to the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and Canon EOS 5D Mark III… note all cameras were using the Canon 24-105 L, and were set as identically as I could. 24fps, 100ISO, 1/50 f10, standard picture profile, 5400k white balance. I did try to compensate for the different sensor sizes by changing the focal length on the 5D3 and 5D2.
and second, to give this new fancy schmancy “Dual Pixel” autofocus thing a quick test. And I was very impressed!
We also throw in an unboxing and a comparison of the auto-focus of the 70D as compared to the Canon Rebel T4i.
First Hands-on with the hot new Canon EOS 70D

Do the results make you want to buy the Canon EOS 70D? Is the “dual pixel AF” good enough for you to use it on a movie or your next project?
