Proxy Module – RED
This is important, because RED lost a lot of business to Alexa and other manufacturers because it did not incorporate Prores or DN x HD (Avid) codecs into it’s camera. Anyone shooting straight to broadcast or with a need for quick turnaround on dailies had to transcode
RAW files first. Recently, a connected third party came out with the Meizler Module to do this. Unfortunately it cost $14K. What is signifigant about this new back is it does all those things at a very reasonable $2500. This will put it into direct competition with Sony and all the rest and fills a noticeable gap that RED users have been complaining loudly about for quite some time.
The PROXY MODULE records DNxHD, H.264, and ProRes proxy files
