Friend of planet5D, Kevin Otterness, is looking to make a movie to open your eyes on young people who are not only victims, but in fact often hurting or killing each other. As Kevin notes in the pitch video, “Fewer American troops have died in Afghanistan this year than people in Chicago from shootings.”
I’m excited to announce that my short film project called “With One Eye Open” fundraising campaign is now LIVE on indiegogo. The film tells the fictional story of a young boy caught in the vicious circle of urban violence. Through his eyes we see and feel the desperation that drives him to emulate behaviors learned on the streets that inevitably will control the course of his life.
I’m taking on this film project to raise awareness of this devastating cycle with the goal of grabbing people’s attention and opening their eyes to the struggles facing our youth today. But to do this, I need your help.
Let’s raise awareness to stop the violence. Thank you in advance for your support.
My name is Kevin Otterness. I’m a filmmaker in Chicago, and I am deeply disturbed by the growing acts of senseless violence taking place here and across our nation. Even more disturbing is that many of these acts are committed by young people whose victims (whether intended or innocent bystanders) aren’t any older than they are. When I see stories on the news of young lives taken before they’ve even had a chance to be lived, I feel helpless. I think, “What could I possibly do to help these kids?” And then, I realize… I can use my skills.
I’m making a short film that will bring to life the hold violence can have on kids who are surrounded by it every day. The film is called “With One Eye Open,” and it tells the fictional story of a young boy caught in the vicious circle of urban violence. Through his eyes we see and feel the desperation that drives him to emulate behaviors learned on the streets and that will eventually control the course of his life.
But the only way I can make this short film is with your help.
What I Need & What You Get
I’ve set a goal to raise $25,000, all of which will go toward the production and post-production of “With One Eye Open.” That includes, but is not limited to:
- Equipment rentals
- Lighting and sound
- Set production/props
- Craft services (food!)
Your contribution will help fund a film that aims to bring awareness to this ongoing epidemic of violence in our country, and your generosity will not go unrecognized. I’m offering some great rewards based on what you can give. I hope that one or more of the “perks” you see at the right of the page appeals to you. Whatever you’re able to contribute, I truly appreciate it. Every dollar donated is a statement that says, “Stop the violence.”
