Canon Rebel T4i and 40mm Pancake coming tomorrow? Touch Screen?

by planetmitch5 Comments

canonrumors.com is reporting that we'll see a new Canon Rebel tomorrow – the Canon Rebel T4i – and it should have 2 new interesting features – AF in video and a touch screen!

Plus, it looks like a new Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 Pancake lens (canonrumors also found this good article on B&H if you want more info)

What do you think?

The pancake is rumored to possibly be under $200 – is that cool?

If true, the Canon Rebel T4i will be the first HDSLR to have a touch screen (i can't think of another that does, can you?).

Canon Rebel T4i Specifications

  • 18mp (no word on whether or not its a new or modified 18mp sensor)
  • 9 AF Points, all cross-type
  • Touchscreen LCD
  • Continuous AF in LiveView & Video Recording

And of course we're dying for more info about his ‘continuous AF in video' and how well it performs.

Technically the GH2 isn’t a HDSLR, but I suppose it should be included in the discussion since it is a superior video tool…

I can’t wait for the 40mm lens! And for less than $200! Awesome! I don’t think I will be buying the t4i, I currently have the t2i, but I don’t see a MAJOR improvement. I don’t need touch screen, nor do I need AF in video. Just my opinion. Anyway, I think it would be a better bang for my buck if I upgraded to a 7d or Mark III, not another rebel. Then again, you never know the new Rebel might have some hidden features that we don’t know about and it might be under $700! Anyway, can’t wait for the lens! This could really make my DSLR pocket-able! Not really, but a LOT smaller! Peace!

Canon never stops with the nickel and dime add-ons. I will add the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 pancake is a great lens, the only draw back is the focus by wire, which is annoying, but you can’t have everything. One advantage to an AF in video mode is for focus pulls with a STEADICAM. True, if the AF sucks, then that operation is altogether worthless. The GH2 works fairly well and can give you some useable focus pull shots. Personally, I’m waiting for the t7,421i I here that’s rumored to come out late 2013 with a built in espresso machine!
