New Canon EOS C300 vid: “Hustle”

by planetmitch4 Comments

A couple of new Canon EOS C300 shorts have appeared today – first up is “Hustle” which was shot in Boston by a large group from the Boston Creative Pro Users Group a few weeks ago and has just made it to the light of day. There was some good coverage on this BTS post “Playing with the Canon C300” by Mike Murie (@notesonvideo)

Coming up a bit later today is the new Canon EOS C300 short from Paul Antico and his crew.

Hustle

Description

A chance to play with the new Canon C300 Cinema EOS Camera leads to three hours of collaborative filming on a wet January 2012 evening at Felt Boston by members of the Boston Creative Pro User Group – BOSCPUG.

What started out with friends as a CAMERA TEST with no script, shot list or idea turned into a quick creative confab and a three minute short set to original music and cut to the groove of a hustle in action.

Thanks to Rick, Ben, Chris, Don and to Baylee our lovely star! And to Norman Lang, Todd Mahoney and to Mike Sutton and Kessler Crane for use of the Kessler KC-Lite Crane – and to our "other" star of the short – FELT BOSTON

Minimal lighting was used to explore the exposure capability of the Canon C300 and to retain the milieu and mood inside of Felt Boston's Billiards Hall.

All footage was captured using Canon C-Log Gamma mode.

Lenses used were Canon "L" Series glass: 35mm, 16-35mm, 50mm, 85mm

Glidecam 4000HD was used for stabilizer shots.

Kessler KC-Lite Crane was used for crane shots.

Kessler Pocket Dolly was used for dolly shots.

Edited in Final Cut Pro.

Graded in DaVinci Resolve to test the dynamics of the Canon C300's XF codec, which held up beautifully with no issues through finishing.

Smoke was used to remove an orange AC cable from three shots in the background and to show how well Canon's C300 XF codec stood up in post.

Original music recorded in Logic by Chris Loughran with Chris on guitars and keyboards and Rockin' Rick Macomber on Harmonica.

Meh. Give the camera to someone that knows what they’re doing… This was pretty poor.

“Brian”‘, it must be easy for you to make such statements when you can anonymously mask your identity on the internet. Ahhhh, that’s the beauty of the internet, isn’t it? People like you feel safe hiding behind your computer screen while others in the real world go out and accomplish things. (note: planetMitch edited a few additional statements out… let’s just leave it here – by the way, I do have Brian’s email address so he’s not that anonymous.)
