I stumbled into a 360 degree fisheye HDSLR timelapse by Gerald Donovan the other day (see below) and then Patryk Kizny sent me one as well – must be a trend! And since it must be a trend, well that means I have to expose you to it – right? HA
These are both created in different manners but the idea is very interesting. Patryk's for example is a:

We don't get clouds like this in Dubai very often, so when they turn up, you've got to make the most of them:)
1050 photos taken at 3 second intervals. It was meant to be 1080, but I messed up
Each image brought into Photoshop for resizing to 16×9, setting of background to white (I have a black version as well, but seeing as the Vimeo page background is white, uploaded this one), and manually rotated. Images are rotated in 1 degree steps – so 360 images for a full revolution.

This footage is a proof of concept and a first sample from our new, custom-built camera system for shooting ultra-high resolution motion-controlled timelapse suited for full dome (Omnimax) projections.
This is a DOWNSCALED preview. The original footage resolution is 5400 x 5400 px and is also available as a 4K (4096×4096) Dome Master.
The camera setup consists of a Hartblei Hcam-1 camera (bit.ly/hcam2), and in this particular case the Leaf Aptus 8 Digiback. As for the lens we used the new Canon 8-15mm which is an outstanding fisheye comparing to EVERYTHING that was on the market before. The Canon with this back was used at 12 mils, with other backs we plan on using it at around 14-15 mils.
With this camera setup we're able to capture equidistance mapping hemispherical timelapse shots of ultra high quality and extreme resolutions ranging from 4K (4096×4096) to almost 8K (7500×7500) suited for most demanding fulldome projects.
The sequences were captured during our second ever and first successful rig testing session in Poland in Jan, 2012. Unfortunately we had only 2 days to get this thing to work and the weather was pretty ugly, therefore this time the content itself is not particularly mind-blowing. However, the purpose of this test is to showcase the technology capabilities and deliver quality samples.
