Price war on Canon EOS 5D Mark II in USA between Adorama and B&H

by planetMitch3 Comments

There seems to be a price war going on right now with the Canon 5D Mark II – both Adorama and B&H have lowered their price to $1999. But, just now, B&H has upped the game by adding these extras!

SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro CompactFlash Card & Lowepro Adventura 170 Shoulder Bag & Red Giant B&H Video Production Software Bundle ($719.85 Total Value)

I keep wondering when / if Amazon is going to get in on the war – as of this writing, they're at $2209

  1. There are laws against price-fixing, but manufacturers can get around them by threatening to revoke a dealer’s franchise (qv, LEGO, Magnepan).

You can be certain this “price war” has Canon’s blessing. The 5D2 is “too good” a camera for $2500, and Canon wants to clear out its stock for whatever “even better for less” model will replace it. The $2000 “fire sale” pricing will do this, as well keeping buyers from being overly angry about not having waited for the 5D3.

There’ll be a lot of unexpected smiles around Christmas trees. “Open me first!”

  2. Yeah right. Sounded good, but WHERE IS THE PRICE WAR NOW? I’M PISSED AND APPARENTLY MISSED THE $2000 MII BY ABOUT ONE DAY AT B &H WHO NOW WON’T EXTEND IT. I RESENT HAVING TO PAY AN EXTRA $200 IN THIS VERY SLOW SEASON/ECONOMY, SO I’M NOT BUYING AT ALL NOW, FOR A WHILE, JUST READING THE BUSCH BOOK ON HOW TO OPERATE IT QUICKLY WHEN DO BUY SO I CAN SEE IF IT WORKS CORRECTLY….
BOTTOM LINE, IF YOU KNOW OF ANY REPUTABLE SELLER STILL INVOLVED IN SAID “OLD, FIZZLED WAR”, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP. MEANWHILE, I’LL TRY TO EVALUATE BESTPRICEPHOTO’S $1879 PRICE FOR VERACITY, AND IF A NEW CAMERA IN A FACTORY SEALED BOX, ETC. THANKS FOR ANY COMMENT, AND AS I NEED 4-5K OF STUFF OVERALL (LIKE LENSES) YOU MIGHT COLLECT A COMMISSION IF WORK WITH ME ON THIS, AND INFLUENCE SOME CAMERA CO TO GIVE ME THE SALE PRICE OR START NEW SALE……BR

  3. I took advantage of it! I see the prices have gone back up, and gone are the bag and 16G card being offered. I probably wouldn’t have been able to afford it otherwise, and certainly not a mkIII when it comes out.
