What is the planet5D Signature LockCircle?

I've been using a LockCircle body cap for my 5D2 for the past few weeks and it provides much more camera body protection than the plastic body cap that comes with your camera and it won't slip off like the plastic ones do… plus, the planet5D edition looks super sharp! The planet5D logo is etched with a laser during manufacturing and isn't a cheap sticker – it isn't going to come off. The planet5D Signature edition only comes in black and is the same price as the other LockCircle selections – $79.

About the lockCircle:

The LockCircle billett aluminum camera body cap is the ultimate eye catching accessory for your professional EF Mount camera!

The knurled edge and the exclusive finger-fit design provides extra-grip in every climate shooting session,

designed for total functionality without compromise!

Machined from solid billett aluminum features sanded textured surface with clear, titanium or black anodized finish.

The highly precision EF bayonet locks the cap in position with a “swiss watch” feeling, providing the necessary seal from dust or moisture.

The LockCircle was designed from the ground up to the most seamless and functional camera professional body cap.

  • To remove the LockCircle, the locking pin button on the camera has to be pressed and the cap can be removed, exactly like a lens.
  • The aluminum bayonet has a hardener and porosity occlusion treatment to make it last forever, without any release of particles inside the camera body.
  • The flange sits on the the body bayonet and seals completely the camera from the elements.
  • All the surface of the flange and the camera bayonet ring are locked strongly in contact by the spring-loaded mechanism of the bayonet mount.
  • Important design and testing has be done in the LockCircle section in the camera electrical contact area. Enhanced room for total safety use.
  • It is impossible to touch the camera contacts by mounting the LockCircle.
  • Special knurled surface and finger-fit ergonomic design for secure removal with sweaty hands or wearing heavy gloves. Solid grip in productions on the run.
  • Tested on the field by cinematographers using HDSLR cameras in feature-film productions.
  • Laser Marking

The LockCircle quality shows in this ‘making of' short

Hello……..we just uploaded a nice video about the LockCircle.

The Making of LockCircle shows the technical production process about the 66 cnc machining steps and other hardener/porosity occlusion treatments.

Also shows the care about the EF-Mount bayonet made to work with a “swiss precision feeling” …..on and off the camera gives to pro's a nice precision feeling…

locking and sealing seriously the camera body for the elements.

We start today delivering the first Lock Circle body caps sold worldwide to high-end professional photographers and cinematographers.

Enjoy the video…..we had a lot of fun doing this small in-house production…..

  1. Come on, man it’s just a body cap! So much commercials about a hilarious body cap. This is the third blog post about it.

Maybe they should put Swarovski rhinestones on it and call it the Paris Hilton edition and they will sell like hot cakes.

Bam, contrary to your thoughts, there are indeed are many who are exited by having a high quality body cap.

It isn’t something that everyone will want or need – just like there are $100,000 cars – not for everyone. But for those who do want one, now they are here.

Sorry if the multiple posts bother you – I’m excited about having a planet5D branded product and want to shout it to the rooftops.

    2. I think it’s friggin sweet. I’ve never liked protecting my $3000 camera body with a 25 cent plastic cup.

      The design looks cool, too.

    3. Bam, I am thinking same as you are. if they want to make money then they should come up with something that worth of spending. I see this product as just want to make money product.

  2. And let us not forget, it is Planet Mitch’s website, so, he can pretty much post what he wants. I’ve had my say on the Lock Circle, and I won’t go in circles with that one, however, I will say, good for you Planet5D, it looks cool and it’s well deserved!

    1. Steve – thank you so much for your kind words – you’re a fine gentleman! It is great to have readers on planet5D willing to share their views with respect.

  3. This isn’t just a “body cap” — it’s also an advertisement, for a blog you profit from.

I’d be curious to know where the profits go. I hope they’re going to improve the blog — not into your pocket.

    1. Author

William, I’m not quite sure how to respond… um, the income from the planet5D blog advertising, affiliate sales, and yes, the profits (if any) from the planet5D LockCircle do go into the business of planet5D – which does by the way feed my family and pay for clothes etc.

planet5D LLC is my only source of income and if that offends you, I’m sorry to hear that.

  4. Having originally thought it excessive, I’ve changed my mind.

Though I might not be tempted to buy this version, I am planning on getting two for my two 5D bodies. As Zeke says, I’m not crazy about relying on a cheap, fragile, plastic lid to protect the tools with I make my living.

William Sommerwerck – not quite sure why you expect people to work for free. Do you? Ever tried feeding your family fresh air for dinner?

    1. Author

Justin – thanks for your post! What? you don’t want the planet5D version? Bummer – it looks much nicer than the ‘normal’ one – in fact, I’m going to add an image of the two side by side in just a minute so you can see :)

  5. I don’t know why I have to buy this? it’s just very expensive cap. I mean CAP!… why do I have to pay a lot of money for just cap? I guess planet 5D getting something from this.

    1. Author

You don’t have to buy it – but many are excited by this product!

If you read the disclaimer at the bottom of the story, it does say planet5D does get a small commission. Tho the price isn’t any different than the EF or F Mount versions

  6. Hey Mitch. Congrats on the LockCircle –
The price is what doesn’t win me over.
Hopefully they’ll come down in price or a less expensive alt will be in the future.

  7. 1. My body caps NEVER fell off in 22 years
    2. You should create a cap that does something unique if you want people to buy it – it looks nice but that money will be spend on gear you need – not to beautify the camera body
    3. You should GIVE THEM AWAY – its a sticky item… do you know what I mean by that?

In advertising its all about how long your name, logo, etc is being seen by people – something like this people will keep and all their buddies will see it and come to your website and buy whatever you are selling (not body caps – actual stuff that people need). This is a genius sticky item – but kinda a dumb item to purchase. And the price? OMG -no no no. If you got these in large quantities you should have paid about 3.50 each. In low quantities maybe 8-10???? sell it at cost if you’re going to sell it.. like I said – its sticky as hell
