callaway composite film[tentblogger-vimeo 26868729]
as we filmed so many different personalities for Eleven INC and Callaway Golf stories started to emerge between them. though many of them are separated by age, playing style, and gender, the way their game came to be and what the game of golf meant to them started to resonate.
we hope you enjoy the story.
featuring gary player, tervor immelman, annika sorenstam, alvaro quiros, morgan pressel, and phil mickelson.
soundtrack is one of my favorites from amy seeley entitled ‘hem me in' licensed through withetiquette.com
throughout this series of films we used a wide array of tools including;
kessler crane KC12
cinevate atlas 30
kessler cineslider (with oracle)
manfrotto 561 BHDV monopod
smallHD DP6 (with cinevate simplis)
kessler revolution head (with oracle)
steadicam zephyr (and a little flyer)
having so many options at our disposal can complicate things (and tempt you to overuse the gear) but also allows you to settle in and only use what is appropriate for the person and the moment. the entire series was a great exercise in restraint and staying focused on what we were trying to say.

to the shared moments that mold and inspire
filming and getting to know so many different personalities over a span of several months with both Callaway and Eleven INC was such a great introduction into the game of golf. like football, we entered knowing very little and a left with quite a fondness for the game. what inspired us most about this series of films was being able to go behind the scenes to both see and share things that people rarely get to see. working out in the early morning with mr. player, hanging out in the pool with ernie and his family, baking cookies with morgan in her kitchen, running on the beach with alvaro, or checking out the trampoline with annika and her daughter – each moment a slice of insight into what makes these people who they are.
what surprised us was just how unique each story was but also how related they were. many players spoke of learning from the game of golf, lessons of honesty, perseverance, and mental fortitude. they also spoke of how their upbringing shaped their individual games; phil mirroring his father's swing and working on trick shots in his backyard, alvaro starting with his father's clubs which were much too big for him and creating his blazing swing, annika sharing one set of clubs with her sister and learning to make the most of what she had, or mr. player growing up with a father working in the mines who would come home with sweat dripping from his boots teaching gary the value of hard work.
these threads, as we call them, are what inspired this piece. we put this together for no reason other than their felt like their was a bigger story to be told. we hope you enjoy.
