In this brief report, canonrumors is reporting they've heard the Canon EOS 5D Mark III may be announced as early as October – yes, this year. As with all rumors, we have to take this with a grain of salt… but we thought you should know of the rumor.

The Next DSLR?
I’m told we’ll be seeing the 5D Mark III announced in October, with delivery shortly there after. I was not given any specs, which is probably a good sign.

We said originally, that the 5D Mark III would come before a 1Ds Mark IV or similar camera. Things appear to have come full circle and negate a lot of what I’ve been told this fall in regards to the 5D3.

Next Announcement Date?
We have the middle of September, possibly September 13-September 15 timeframe for a few more PowerShots. Some folks don’t read the site all that well and have posted other dates quoting us.

  1. From all the test footage I’ve seen of the A77, Canon has nothing to worry about. Heck, my GH1 with the 20mm 1.7 pancake lens blows that A77 out of the water. Yeah, it shoots 60fps @1080, big deal, it still doesn’t touch the 5DM2, nor the Panasonic GH2 in image quality from what i’ve seen.

  2. I wish Canon would come up with a mirrorless system. I love my Mark II but I would like a lighter system as well for those long hikes and as a general carry-with-me camera. Since I create large prints the small sensors won’t work for me. The new Sony NX-7 looks very nice as does the GH2(3?). I’m more concerned about still quality than video.

  3. Will the 5D3 be dumbed down like the 5D2 or will it actually AutoFocus better than the worst Nikon?
