Paul Antico (@IAmNeedCreative) has sent us info about his new project “The Visualmakers” – a new documentary about filmmakers who were at NAB 2011. It isn't really about NAB – but everyone happened to be there, so Paul and his crew were able to get some great interviews and put this together. I'm sure you'll be eager to see the final product when it is ready after watching the trailer. After watching, read below the video what Paul sent to planet5D as background info.

Paul sends along this background info:

On the site NeedCreative.Net, Paul Antico (@IAmNeedCreative on Twitter) likes to blog about the creative process. Recently accessible digital cinematic tools have enabled a diverse group of latent talent to express themselves in a way never before possible for those without a substantial budget. These tools have also enabled seasoned pros used to using very expensive gear to make new, more personal productions they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to get green-lighted. The new wave of cinematic digital video upon us has contributed to a wealth of new creativity. Paul tells us that’s what NeedCreative's upcoming documentary entitled The Visualmakers seeks to explore.

Paul had this to say about why he decided to make the documentary, filmed at this year's NABShow in April in Las Vegas: “We’re always talking about tools – gear – which is all very exciting and fun (and important), but it also misses the grand point of why do we do what we do? As you will see in The Visualmakers, we talked with a number of people you may know like Vincent Laforet, Philip Bloom, and Kevin Shahinian to explore their motives for why they do what they do. What drives these filmmakers to create? Where did they learn what they did? Would they miss it if they could no longer create visuals? At NAB 2011, we discovered what unites us all – Visualmaking. And we find out how we got there and why we stay in the world of independent filmmaking.”

The approximately 30-minute Visualmakers documentary is anticipated to drop by July, 2011. In the meantime take a look at the trailer, and let Paul and his team know what you think.

I really enjoyed this. I’ve long thought about how interesting and special the short-filmmaking community is at this exact moment. I’m glad someone is telling *that* story.
