Canon released updated firmware for the Canon Rebel T2i/550D (reviews) – this one is version 1.0.9 and it is just a bug fix – no new features were added.

Download the update from this Canon Japan site.

Many will be disappointed in this update as they've been hoping that Canon would add the same manual audio controls that were added to the Canon EOS 5D Mark II (reviews) firmware earlier this year.

Firmware changes

Firmware version 1.0.9 incorporates the following fixes.

  • Fixes a phenomenon in which tone jumps become noticeable in some images, depending on the shooting scene, when shooting with the Auto Lighting Optimizer settings (Low / Standard / Strong).

Firmware version 1.0.9 is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.8. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.0.9, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Are the previous versions of firmware included in version 1.0.9? Yes, the improvements from the previous version are included.

And, if you've never done a firmware upgrade, here's a how to video that was done for an earlier release. No difference with this version.
