Lock and Load – a Final Cut Pro image stabilizer – this weekend only 47% off
Posted on 07. Aug, 2010 by planetMitch in Software
Lock and Load is an image stabilizing plugin for Final Cut Pro – and this weekend only, MacUpdate has it available for only $79 – which is almost half off. We don’t have any experience with this plugin and so we can’t tell if you if this is a ‘must have’ tool but we thought we should at least alert you of this big promotion. There are some comments from some users on the MacUpdate page for this plugin so you might want to read thru those to help you decide if you want to buy it. There is also a ‘trial’ that you can download.

UPDATE: In the comments Dan uploaded a sample so I thought I’d show it
Lock and Load X stabilization comparison from Dan McComb on Vimeo.
Before-and-after footage comparison shows handheld footage stabilized with CoreMelt’s Lock and Load X plugin for Final Cut Pro.
Shot handheld with Canon T2i with Nikon 35mm f1.4 lens in available light.
Here’s the description from the MacUpdate site
Lock & Load is the worlds fastest stabilizer for FCP. Instant smoothing of camera motion with smart adaptive zoom straight on the FCP timeline. Lock and Load can take your hand held shaky cam footage and make it usable footage. Just select the clip, analyze it in seconds and playback the smoothed clip. That’s it, instant gratification, even on clips with complex rotational motion or camera zooms. Lock and load is capable of intelligently ignoring foreground motion even on busy scenes or with dark backgrounds.
Advantages over other stabilizers:
only analyzes the section of the clip between the in and out points
up to six times faster analysis
smart adaptive zoom
intelligently ignores foreground motion
intuitive user interface, no learning curveRequirements:
Mac OS X 10.5.3 or later
Final Cut Express 4.0 or later
Final Cut Pro 6.0 or later
Motion 3.0 or later

The MacUpdate site has a timer right next to the BUY NOW button to let you know how much longer the deal is available so if you’re at all interested in this plugin, keep an eye on that time. Tho they do offer an additional 8 day discount after the timer expires, but it isn’t at the full 47% off… it will be $134 instead of $79.
And, as I said, we don’t have any experience with this plugin, but if you do, please sound off in the comments!
Blogger’s disclaimer: planet5D is a MacUpdate affiliate and we would get a commission for any purchases – and we thank you

This is an astounding plugin. It has literally changed the way I shoot, and saved my bacon more than once. I routinely apply this filter to my handheld footage, and it smooths like magic – MOST of the time. There are occasional footage that it doesn’t work on, but nevermind, it’s a game changer that should be in every editor’s toolkit.

This post inspired me to make a footage comparison video with before-and-after shots using Lock and Load X:

This footage looks very similar to FCP’s existing Smoothcam filter.
