planet5D starting an HDSLR Talk Radio show!

It is Memorial weekend here in the USA so many are off enjoying their families and having fun, and I am too (we just adopted 2 kittens last week and we're now fostering 2 more – but that's a whole other story). Anyway, I'm hoping to get some feedback on this new idea. The other day, I was driving home from a softball game listening to a sports “talk radio” show and the thought flashed into my head! Since the interviews I've been doing have been so popular and people in the chat like to ask questions, and people are always popping in to the chat on the blog (see lower right corner of your browser), why not do a call in show for HSLRs? Nobody else is doing it that I'm aware of.

All it takes is for someone to use Skype (something everyone can install and it is free from around the world!) to call me during a specified time and I'll answer the calls. And I will also have some stories prepared to discuss when there aren't any questions coming in (just like the talk shows do on the radio). I have all the equipment set up now, I have a Skype ID (planet5D), and now all we need to do is schedule the time. I have set up a twtpoll for you guys to help me figure out what the best time is to do the show. So please go over and vote to tell me which evening (USA time) for the show. If it takes off, I'd also like to do a show during the day (USA time – maybe even early morning) to have the microphone open for the rest of the world to “call in”.

So, please help me decide what to do… sound off in the comments below to let me know what you think and please vote in the poll to help pick a regular night – if we have a regular schedule, it will be easier for people to remember and have on their schedule (of course, we'll add it to the planet5D Event Calendar too).

Mitch, I like your idea and I would listen to your show. I started one a month ago and have 4 podcasts already. But be careful my shows have been downloaded so many times that I had to change my hosting package.

Sounds like a great idea! Would be great if you could record them and provide them as podcast for those of us in different parts of the world.

I appreciate you want to put on a show. But there is so much information already available on-line, I really don’t think I would benefit at all from a podcast. No one in my circle of HDSLR DoPs would have time, and I know I would not be listening. Maybe you should do a poll before you go through all that effort.

Nat, thanks for your input. Based on what I’m hearing, people have a lot of interest in this type of show. Heck, if you think about it, there’s enough information out there on sports, but there are a huge number of sports talk shows. We’ll give it a shot and see what happens.

I would really listen to the show! If you get some of the big names in as well talking about upcoming projects with dslr and different workflows would be great! Getting the basic info and all that stuff is great for the web but all those hands on information about workflows etc.. are great for a radio show!
