Ken Rockwell using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II – Loves It

by planetmitch6 Comments

Quick update: Just found this note from Ken Rockwell (famed Nikon shooter and blogger) who announced that he's been using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II for a week and said he is “loving it”. He says he's still leaving the video to the camcorder, but loves the resolution and custom settings on the dial.

I don't think he's going to give up his Nikons, but says quite a few nice things about the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Here is just one paragraph:

“What stands out from my Nikons, in addition to its lower weight, and double the resolution, are its three Total Recall Camera State Memories: the C1, C2 and C3 positions on the top dial.”

Please go read his whole post for more info

  1. “(famed liar and instigator) Ken Rockwell” is probably more appropriate. I wouldn’t pollute your great blog with his useless ramblings.

    1. Author

Ken has lots of fans as well as folks who don’t like him much. While some (many?) don’t agree with him or like him, he is an influencer and if he’s saying good things about the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, then maybe some will move to Canon. Love him or hate him, it is still news :)

  2. It’s funny to read that Ken is mentioning the C1/C2/C3, along some others, as a big benefit over the Nikon DSLRs.

Some of us suggested those features to Nikon so long ago…. Also many video/movie features and ideas for general enhancements.

Surely Nikon didn’t hear nor pay much attention that time…

  3. “no DSLR autofocuses for video, making them just about useless unless you have a three-man crew manning the camera” with all due respect. that’s bollocks

  4. if you search his blog for 5d comparisons from a year before, he rips on it compared to the d3x, calling it all sorts of names like consumer grade only, etc.

problem with him, is he uses all sorts of instigation to confuse newbies, leads so many astray.

And btw, have you seen his so-called work?
