Zacuto has released the first webisode of the Great Camera Shootout for 2010. This will be a three part series comparing the top line HDSLR cameras and they put them up against the ‘standard' – 35mm film. The first webisode is called “It is all about latitude“.

This really is a great production with a huge team of folks (see below). The key in watching it (for me at least) is to finally have a room full of many film industry experts looking at identical shots from 2 types of movie film against the top line HDSLRs from Canon (the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, the 7D, the 1D MKIV, and the Canon Rebel T2i/550D in some tests), Nikon (D3s), and Panasonic (GH1). We've all been wondering and chatting about where will these cameras go and what will they look like up on the big screen and now Zacuto has produced a very definitive test for all of us to see!

To see the 35 minute first webisode, visit the Zacuto site. And make sure to watch it full screen. And while you're there – post a comment – they're giving away some gear!

From their site: “Zacuto Films presents, “The Great Camera Shootout 2010: a three part web series where gunslinging HD DSLRs face-off against legendary 35mm Film.” The webisodic series showcases the top performing hybrid HD-DSLR cameras: Canon: 5D MKII, 7D, 1D, 550D/T2i Rebel, Nikon D3s, Panasonic GH1 and compares the image quality of these cameras against the gold standard of 35mm film. In addition, the Canon 5D MKII test includes the new 24p firmware. “This was an enormous undertaking,” says Steve Weiss, Web Series Director, “and great care was to make this an apples-to-apples test with scientific accuracy behind it.”

Each webisode of the series features various controlled camera assessment tests which include: resolution, latitude, sensitivity, speed & ultra high speed, noise, color & green screen. The battery of tests were administered under strict controls and conducted by Robert Primes ASC, Gary Adcock, Philip Bloom, Jens Bogehegn and colorist Ryan Emerson.
