Beautiful movies coming in from Canon Rebel T2i/550D

People are getting their hands on the Canon Rebel T2i/550D and they're starting to produce some beautiful moving images! We posted a bit the other day about Torres Studio's “The Bridge” and how they were using the Canon EOS 7D and 5D2 to make a cool movie. Well, now we find out they've gotten a Canon Rebel T2i/550D and are mixing in some T2i video with the 7D video and not having any trouble. See info on their blog.

They are even using the T2i to film beautiful video like this (we also posted this over on the planet5D Cinema)…

From their blog:

“The visual quality of the 550D T2i is equivalent to the 7D pretty much across the board. I have inter-cut 7D footage with 550D footage and there is no visible difference. The 7D seems to be a little more sensitive in low-light but not a major leap. I was so happy with the performance of the T2i, after a few hours of testing, I was comfortable enough to make it as my B camera in my WW2 short film “The Bridge” which was shot primarily on the 7D and 5DM2. You can judge the scene below, proudly shot on the T2i.”

  1. If you are looking to shoot HD videos for the price this camera is excellent. It is comparable to the Canon 7d and half of the cost. Make sure you buy 16gb Sdhc cards or larger as recording in full 1080p uses a lot of space. Also the lens that comes with this camera is “average” and not very good. I would suggest buying the body only and saving up for a better lens ( not to much more) in the $300 price range. What the better lenses allow are able to shoot in less light and provide a further zoom range. Overall this is an amazing product but there is A LOT to learn, so take your time and enjoy.

  2. Agree totally with the recommendation to shoot with better glass … we went out yesterday to Huntington Gardens in Pasadena with a 7D and a Rebel T2i with matching Zeiss ZE lenses … haven’t seen the results yet in the grading suite but already the T2i images look damn good … will post links once we’ve cut and graded some footage.

We’re also running the Can-Do International Film Festival and Competition … we’re getting submissions in from all around the world … all shorts have to be shot on the Canon HD DSRLs and be under 4 minutes …. some of the movies are quite stunning.

Check out the quality if you get a chance … even better, shoot something on the T2i and submit it … some great prizes on offer.
