Beautiful Charleston SC From Above (a Canon EOS 5D Mark II video)

Adam Boozer sent us this beautiful Canon EOS 5D Mark II video – nothing but aerials from above Charleston SC. He writes:
“The piece is made up of footage that I have been contracted to shoot for the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. We have done numerous flights in the area and just have been really stunned with the results. Ultimately we will be producing numerous videos using the material, but I just HAD to cut something as a bit of a teaser. I used “Some where over the rainbow” because both shooting at 5 and 6 in the morning, hovering 15-20 feet over the marsh and then watching the footage when I got back, truly felt like some type of dream. I really feel honored to have the opportunity to capture images like this.

Everything is shot with the Canon 5d Mark II stabilized on a Tyler Mini Gyro. We are shooting out of the side of an open door on a Robinson R44 Helicopter. The Tyler mount works exceptionally well, but I still found that I used SmoothCam in Final Cut Pro on nearly all of the shots to make them perfectly locked on.
I used a Singh-Ray Vari nd filter on the front on a Canon 16-35 2.8 L, A Sigma 50mm 1.4 and a Canon 70-200 2.8 L.
I use a Zacuto precision shooter setup with a Marshall HDMI monitor, Zacuto Z Follow Focus, rails…etc
All of the shots have been conformed to 24p in Cinema Tools.
Slight color grading was done using Magic Bullet Looks.”

Beautiful stuff. I have been exploring the combination of the 5d and the mini gyro for a job and wasn’t too sure how it would work. After seeing your results I am sold.
cheers
