Side by side comparison of rolling shutter on the Canon EOS 7D and Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Posted on 17. Oct, 2009 by in 5D mk ii, 7D, Video

Now this is great little test! One Canon EOS 5D Mark II and one Canon EOS 7D mounted on the same tripod filming at the same time gives you a great comparison of the rolling shutter effect.

this is an update to my first test, a bit more conclusive.

5D > 7D on the rolling shutter. 24p really isnt that big a deal in my opinion. When the output is H264 you are gunna have to reoutput to somethign like Prores anyway. So might as well convert to 24 at the same time.

I’ve done a top-to-bottom split screen comparison of the 5D and 7D in all of its modes. Since we’re looking at horizontal motion, this makes the comparison much easier than the side-to-side split screen.

My results are that the 7D and 5D have identical scan rates in 24p and 30p modes, while the 7D‘s 60p has a much faster scan rate (12.5ms?). http://vimeo.com/6986229
