Quick video preview of the Canon EOS 7D

by planetmitch2 Comments

Juan Pons, huge fan of planet5D and sponsor (see this post about “wild nature tours you must try!”), has released this quick video comparison of the Canon EOS 7D and the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Juan has recently switched from the Canon EOS 5D Mark II to the 7D and he explains his reasoning – but also explains why for some, the 5D2 will be the better choice. This should be considered tho a trailer for a longer, more in depth comparison to come soon.

Please accept my apologies on the sound, the non-consistent audio levels are the result of the Auto-Gain feature of the 7D (as well as the 5D2). I truly wish Canon would allow us to to set manual audio gain levels.

  1. Wait, when you mention that your lens magnification is increased on the 7D over the 5D – It’s my understanding that the size of a sensor has absolutely no effect on the magnification of a lens. Decreasing sensor size does not increase the magnification of the lens, reduce aberrations, or increase the depth of field (DOF).

All the size of the smaller sensor does is reduce the area of the image captured by the camera. Nothing more.
