Ralph Lauren promotional video made with Canon EOS 5D Mark II

by planetmitch3 Comments

We found this Ralph Lauren promotional video made with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II the other day on vimeo posted by Camille Marotte and asked for a little background information – of course we were wondering if this was an ‘official' Ralph Lauren commercial. Here's what we found:

“Well, the Ralph Lauren vid has been done for the website vente-privee.com, it's a trailer for an internet private sale of Ralph Lauren clothes.

We were shooting on the roof of a building in Paris with the 5D and a Canon 50mm 1.4 with the twist trick (to have maximum aperture).

I shot the videos, and then put it all inside of After Effects for editing, grading and some effects.

The music was done by one of the musician working with us, especially for this trailer.

Everything was then showed to Ralph Lauren and validated by them.”

So, while not made directly for Ralph Lauren, it has been reviewed and approved. Either way, it is an exciting little piece!

  1. What is the Twist Trick that she mentions here: 5D and a Canon 50mm 1.4 with the twist trick

  2. Hi Steve,

Well I’m not a “she” but a “he”, but I get that a lot :)

The twist trick with the mark was used before the firmware and was just disconecting the lens from the camera (1-2mm twisting) after setting your aperture to keep the lens in that particular aperture.

It worked great but you had the risk to see your lens falling on the ground :)

  3. hello

obviously your commercial fits the brief for marketing clothes and as such is very beautiful but i’d like to see the 5d used for more than vincents revirie and other slow paced sloshy beauty stuff. i love vincents stuff, he’s sure got all the right lenses.( i’m jealous of course…)
my point question is: are there other examples out there that don’t rely on classical music over stunning imagery.
is the 5d mkII only for artsy types shooting glossy editorial with all the kit.?

we shot this test in an afternoon then edited it in the evening. using AE and FCPro using 16mm -35mm 2.8 zoom
    and a 24mm-105mm 4.5

ps i like the twist idea alot!!
