DCRP Review: Canon EOS-5D Mark II

by planetmitch2 Comments

This morning, a new Canon 5D mk ii review appeared… the Digital Camera Resource Guide has just published their very thorough review.

Covering all aspects of the camera, they've also included some very interesting comparisons of some of the features that don't usually get much coverage. Highlight tone priority, peripheral illumination, and auto lighting optimizer are covered with unique image comparisons. Click on a link below each image and the site will alternate between the off and on settings so you can see exactly what that feature will do.

The review covers the normal ISO side by side images, menu features, movie mode with sample videos, and a vast discussion of what the reviewer liked and didn't like about the Canon 5D mk ii.

If you're looking for a review that doesn't seem to be biased, this is a pretty good one.

I’ve not read the review, nor do I plan to after the site threw a small hissy fit when Canon neglected to include them in the prerelease info kit for the T1i. In protest, they held back the 5D Mark II review. Are you kidding me?

It’s okay to be upset with Canon in such a situation, but you handle it privately so your journalistic integrity isn’t later questioned. And for goodness sake, you don’t punish your readers by withholding the review of one of the most sought after cameras in years. That’ll teach Canon! All in all, it cost the site a lot of professional credibility and lost them this reader.
