Yes it is true, webisodes of the show Ghost Whisperer have been filmed with the Canon 5D mk ii. Ok, they aren’t the versions of the TV show that everyone sees over the broadcast airwaves, but they’re cool none the less. And it is impressive that a big name like CBS would go with video shot with a DSLRV. We first heard about them when we ran into this TV Guide Blog post. The spots are sponsored by Saturn, so you’ll see a lot of cars.
“We are proud to announce that Ghost Whisperer: The Other Side III is the first webseries to shoot with the CANON EOS 5D MARK II DIGITAL SLR CAMERA – a groundbreaking technology that is the first DSLR camera to record full 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second. The Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Camera is a 35mm still camera that records video at the highest quality in the world, surpassing all the latest existing video capture technology. (Fact: Iron Man 2 is using this camera as well but you have to wait until 2010 to see the results. Or you can check out THE OTHER SIDE IIII today!”
There are 8 episodes filmed exclusively for the web airing now. They’re shown over on the Ghost Whisperer site. The first webisode is called “The Haunting”
Another confirmation comes thru this interview with Tim Smith from Canon that was filmed at last week’s NAB conference. It is produced by Digital Cinema Society and is worth a watch.
The video also shows the RedRock Micro rig used to film the webisodes.
